Britain will see heavy rainfall and fog today, after the Met Office has issued a yellow rain warning.

Scotland is set to experience torrential rain, mainly hitting western Scotland.

The heavy rain could increase the risk of flooding and impact transport services.

The Met Office said that Scots should expect that “spray and flooding could lead to difficult driving conditions and some road closures”.

The weather office continued: “Where flooding occurs, there is a slight chance of delays or cancellations to train and bus services.”

They added: “There is a small chance that homes and businesses could be flooded, causing damage to some buildings.”

Affected areas range from the northwest Highlands, down to Glasgow and parts of North Ayrshire.

The day is expected to begin with patchy rain in Northern Ireland, southern and western Scotland and northern England.

The yellow warnings follows record-breaking rainfall at the weekend in Scotland, which resulted in landslides and widespread flooding.

Ten people had to be airlifted to safety after landslides occurred in Argyll and Bute. No injuries were reported.

Both yellow and amber weather warnings were in place across large parts of Scotland.

Rail services were either suspended or heavily disrupted.
