Bristol City head coach Liam Manning is taking a leave of absence following the tragic death of his newborn son, Theo John Manning.

The Championship club announced the news on Monday, expressing deep sadness at the passing of Manning’s recently born child.

“Everyone at Bristol City Football Club is deeply saddened by the passing of Liam’s recently born son Theo John Manning,” the club said in a statement.

“We know that Bristol City’s supporters and the wider football family will share their condolences and deepest sympathy with Liam, his wife Fran and his son Isaac during this difficult period.”

The club announced that Manning’s assistant, Chris Hogg, will take charge of all football duties during his absence.

Manning, 38, joined Bristol City in November 2023 after spells at MK Dons and Oxford United. He is known for his high possession and high-pressing style of football.
