GB News star Bev Turner has launched a scathing attack on school closures due to snow, claiming Britain’s children are “lacking resilience”.

The broadcaster criticised the widespread closures across the UK, suggesting there needs to be “a really good reason to close schools”.

She questioned whether current conditions justified the widespread closures, stating: “From what we can see it doesn’t look like it’s that bad.”

Speaking on GB News, she criticised the apparent lowered threshold for disrupting education across Britain.

Schools across the UK have been forced to close today as heavy snow and icy conditions sweep the nation.

Met Office Chief Meteorologist Frank Saunders cautioned “snow showers producing temporary accumulations of 0-2cm at low levels”, following yellow weather warnings across the country.

“It just feels like any excuse to not go to work. And I’m sorry, but we got lazy in lockdown, and something mentally changed for a lot of people,” Bev fumed.

“You wonder why we’ve got a generation of kids who’ve got no resilience whatsoever, because they never got a snowball in the back of their head on the way to school on a cold winter’s day,” she added.

Bev reflected on how different school closures due to bad weather were in previous generations.

LATEST DEVELOPMENTS:

“In my day, we would still have gone to school. Mum would have got us in the car and got our wellies on, and gloves with the strings attached so you didn’t lose one,” she recalled.

Bev suggested that attitudes had shifted since the pandemic: “They took that as the excuse. If we can do it then, we can do it in the future.”

The GB News host also noted that her own children were due to return to school tomorrow after “a long Christmas holiday”, discussing the knock on impact on parents and grandparents.

She stated: “The disruption this causes to their education, but also to the working life of parents – I bet there’s loads of grandparents at home who have been called in this morning.”
