With temperatures plummeting to minus numbers in some parts of the UK, it’s no wonder so many Britons are keen to escape for some sun.
Valencia, Spain, is a wonderful holiday spot as it offers beautiful beaches, stunning architecture, delicious cuisine and thriving nightlife.
But according to one expat, who has lived everywhere from the East coast of America to Ireland, Paris to Panama City, it’s also a fantastic place for expats to retire.
The city has plenty to offer, including fabulous architecture, shopping and great food.

For those who love architecture, the architectural prowess in the city is spectacular.
For those who love green spaces, there are gardens aplenty. Turia Garden, Parque Central and Monforte Garden are just some must-sees.

“My favourite choice for retirement in 2024 is Valencia, a vibrant, joyful city found on Spain’s Mediterranean Coast,” expat Kathleen told Forbes.
Expats can settle in to Valencia well because there is such a strong international community, despite not being expat-dominated.
But for those who aren’t too keen on this Spanish spot, Crete in Greece is also a great place for expats.
It’s the largest island in Greece and boasts brilliant beaches and exceptional mountains, not to mention the tasty Greek cuisine.
Braga is one of the oldest cities in Portugal and is home to the oldest cathedral in the country.
