Benjamin Mendy has launched a ‘multi-million-pound’ claim against Manchester City over unpaid wages.

The 29-year-old has filed the claim with the employment tribunal over the last few days claiming unauthorised deduction from his salary.

Mendy was charged with rape and attempted sexual assault back in 2021.

However, he was found not guilty earlier this year and has since proceeded to resume his career in football.

Mendy denied both charges against him and was found not guilty by the jury at Chester Crown Court in July.

Manchester City stopped paying the defender his £100,000-per-week salary when he was initially charged.

Sky Sports say Mendy is now looking to recoup the wages he feels he’s owed.

Mendy joined City back in the summer transfer window of 2017 after impressing for Monaco in France.

He was part of the Monaco side that won the Ligue 1 title that year, ending Paris Saint-Germain’s dominance of French football in the process.

Mendy won three Premier League titles during his time at the Etihad Stadium.

He was part of the side that won an unprecedented domestic quadruple in 2021, making 20 Premier League appearances that year.

Mendy, after leaving City, joined Lorient in France.

He has made three appearances for the club in the short time since his arrival.

Lorient announced his arrival by saying: “FC Lorient is pleased to announce today the signing for two seasons of French international left-back Benjamin Mendy (29).

“After having satisfied the traditional medical examination, Benjamin Mendy, world champion 2018, quadruple winner of the Premier League under the colors of Manchester City and French champion of Ligue 1 with Monaco in particular, comes to reinforce the Lorient workforce for this new season.

“The native of Longjumeau, who will wear number 5 with the Merlus, will take his first steps at Espace FCL today.

“Welcome Benjamin!”

Mendy was previously cleared of six rapes at an earlier trial in January.

And the defender was supported by several footballers once he was found not guilty.

Among those was Memphis Depay, with the Netherlands international saying: “Benjamin Mendy All cases dismissed. So what are we doing now?
“Who is going to help this brother heal? Who’s going to be Responsable [sic] for the damage on he’s [sic] name?

“I’ve never touched on this subject because I didn’t know all the details, but I’ve spoken to him once true [sic] FaceTime while behind bars and faced him on the pitch a couple times.. I didn’t see any evil in the man.

“We can’t accept this to happen to us as athletes.. Who’s going to stand up for us in the time of need not when the damage is already done? Don’t turn your head people.”
