BBC sees ANOTHER radio presenter exit following Claudia Winkleman and Helen Skelton departures

BBC Radio 1 presenter Clara Amfo has announced she’ll be stepping down from the broadcaster’s Future Sounds show.

The former Strictly Come Dancing star has been at the helm of the radio programme since 2021 but will be replaced by Chart Show host Jack Saunders in April.

While Amfo will remain with the Beeb to front a number of other projects and launch a new Sounds show, her departure from the airwaves is the latest in a long line of farewells from some of the corporation’s biggest names.

Earlier this year, Helen Skelton announced she was quitting her Radio 5 Live show to spend more time with her children – although remains at the BBC as part of its new-look Morning Live line-up.

One of its highest-paid stars Claudia Winkleman also quit her role on BBC Radio 2 as she confirmed this month she’ll leave her Saturday mid-morning slot next year.

They all join a long list of stars including the likes of Ellie Harrison, Emily Maitlis, Dan Walker, Steve Wright, Ken Bruce, and Kirsty Wark and many more who’ve either switched roles, announced exits or have already left the corporation entirely in recent years.

Amfo announced the news on Instagram where she shared a snap of herself inside the studio.

She penned alongside: “The face of a woman trying to keep a secret/make big decisions, whew! ⁣ With immense gratitude and thought given, I have made the choice to say goodbye to Future Sounds on @bbcradio1.

⁣”I’ll save the long paragraphs (cos you know I love ‘em!) for my final show but for now, I will say… I’m so proud of the work I’ve been able to do on every type show over the years from the 8th floor, up and down the UK and random pop stars houses!

“I’m grateful to have had the ears of the listeners who have consistently shown up for me.⁣

“I’m enamoured by every production team I’ve had the privilege of working alongside for each and every broadcast.⁣

“I’m so honoured by the incredible artists and their hardworking teams who have chosen the show to share their work and intimate thoughts, constantly providing one of the most precious things we all need to keep going in this wild world.

⁣”I’m energised and excited for my next chapter as part of the network and beyond! ⁣ ⁣See you at 6pm. Clara⁣, X.⁣”

Several of Amfo’s BBC collegues and other famous faces rushed to show their support as the 39-year-old moves on to pastures new.

Winkleman replied with a series of love heart emojis while Strictly star Angela Scanlon commented on the post: “Yes babs!! Up up and away xx.”

“Love yeeeeeeeeeew,” Greg James wrote followed by a love heart emoji while Zoe Ball also weighed in: “Oh clara new adventures ahead. huge love to you goddess x.” (sic)
