BBC Scotland has confirmed presenter Nick Sheridan has died at the age of 32.

The presenter was best known for presenting Drivetime, Lunchtime Live and the Sunday Show after joining the Beeb from Irish broadcaster RTE.

Tributes from far and wide have flooded in for Sheridan, with Head of News and Current Affairs at BBC Scotland, Gary Smith, saying: “‘Nick has been a wonderful colleague.

“He was a hugely talented journalist, presenter and author – and one of those rare people who light up the lives of everyone around them.

“Funny, clever, kind. A lovely man. Our hearts go out to his parents, to his partner, and to all his family and friends.”

Former SNP leader Nicola Sturgeon also shared her words of condolence to Sheridan’s family.

She penned on X, formerly Twitter: “So terribly sad to read this.

“It is truly awful. Nick was young, talented, vivacious, and full of potential. What a horrible, senseless loss.

“My thoughts are with his family, colleagues and many friends,” she concluded, followed by a heartbroken emoji.

The BBC has reported that Sheridan died following a “short illness”.

Current SNP leader Humza Yousaf also paid tribute on the social media site: “Very sad news.

“My thoughts are with Nick’s friends and family at what will be an incredibly difficult time. Nick was a talented journalist and author and will be greatly missed.”

Meanwhile, Scottish Labour leader Anas Sarwar penned: “This is absolutely heartbreaking news. Nick was a phenomenally talented young journalist, well-liked and with a bright future ahead of him.

“My thoughts are with his family, friends and all his colleagues at the BBC.”

And Scottish Conservative leader Douglas Ross echoed: “This is terribly sad news.
