The Great British Sewing Bee was back on screens on Tuesday night, but as tensions rose during a tough challenge, viewers requested a key change to the show.

The 10 remaining contestants were tasked with focusing on India’s fashion and textiles, but fans were left distracted throughout.

Host Kiell Smith-Bynoe and judges Patrick Grant and Esme Young were joined by special guest judge Priya Khanchandani for the episode.

However, during the tricky challenge, some fans pointed out the show had become less about sewing skills and more about speed.

Taking to social media, several viewers questioned why such an emphasis was placed on time, with one writing: “I don’t like the drama this week! Too many people are upset. The challenges are too hard. #sewingbee.”

“So sad. Is it a sewing SPEED competition or is it a sewing SKILLS competition? #SewingBee,” another asked.

“I’m loving this sari inspired challenge, would prefer they had more time to do it justice #SewingBee,” someone else wrote.

“Esme and Patrick are two of the most hard reality tv competition judges i’ve come across. Their standards are soooo high!!! #sewingbee,” another complained.

A fifth added: “Oh no #sewingbee seems to be going down the bake off route and making the tasks impossible. If no one finishes in time, it’s because there wasn’t enough time!”

“That’s the problem with all of these contest programs. The jewellery one, the woodwork and joinery one, and the sewing bee, I’d rather they didn’t have to rush to finish as it lowers the quality,” another shared. (sic)

At the end of the show, Grant revealed Garment of the Week had gone to Ailsa, who was left stunned by the achievement.

“I wasn’t expecting that, thank you,” she remarked before the judges turned to bad news.

Host Kiell Smith-Bynoe announced: “The sewer going home this week is Lauren.”

“Yeah, I thought so,” a disappointed Lauren admitted before an emotional Suzy pulled her into a hug.

“Oh, don’t cry, Suze!” Lauren remarked. Reflecting on her journey, she told the cameras: “Not in a million did I think I would even make it to Sewing Bee.

“The fact that I even got halfway through is a massive achievement.”
