Prior to Sunday, Arsenal fans had been dreaming of a Premier League and Champions League double.
But the north London giants are now facing the prospect of ending the season with nothing after a 1-0 defeat to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night.
Arsenal were poor on Sunday as a 2-0 loss to Aston Villa at the Emirates Stadium dented their hopes of domestic glory.
And while they were improved for Wednesday night’s contest with Bayern, they were unable to find a way past Thomas Tuchel’s well-drilled outfit.
Arsenal lost 1-0 to Bayern Munich on Wednesday night with Joshua Kimmich scoring the only goal of the Champions League clash

It was Kimmich who was the difference, with the Germany international powering home the winning goal with a sublime header.
The Bayern star thundered his effort crashing past David Raya after a sublime cross from Raphael Guerreiro, sending the Allianz Arena wild in the process.
While Arsenal posed a threat on the night, it was a deserved win for Bayern in their own back yard.
They were slightly superior at the Emirates eight days ago and, had it not been for some questionable refereeing, would have left the capital with an advantage to their name.
Bayern haven’t been their usual selves this season, with Bayer Leverkusen already ending their dominance of the Bundesliga in emphatic style.
But they played like a side eager for Champions League glory and determined to give Thomas Tuchel the dream send-off.
Bayern started brightly, with Harry Kane at the centre of things.
The former Tottenham star, who has 15 goals against Arsenal to his name from his time in England, went close with two early attempts.
The Gunners, to their credit, then started to grow into the contest.
Manuel Neuer was called into action, with the Germany international denying Gabriel Martinelli on two occasions.
Martinelli, picked in place of Leandro Trossard, initially caused Bayern problems with his searing speed.
And one first half miss will no doubt haunt Mikel Arteta given it was their best opportunity of the night.
The Brazil winger was found in the box by Martin Odegaard but could only direct his shot straight at Neuer.
Arteta, standing on the touchline, looked frustrated – almost as though he knew what was coming.
Bayern, inevitably, upped the ante.

They struck the post early in the second half, with Leon Goretzka seeing his header go agonisingly close to breaking the deadlock.
Just seconds later Guerreiro also struck the post, with his deflected shot hitting William Saliba.
Bayern won this competition just four years ago, beating Paris Saint-Germain in the final back in 2020.
And their experience and nous started to tell as the match went on.
In the end, it was Kimmich who proved to be the difference.

His header was sublime and he was one of the best players on the pitch, shining at right-back while also drifting inside.
Arsenal won’t have too long to dwell on this latest setback, with the north London giants next in action against Wolves on Saturday.
With Manchester City favourites to win the Premier League, however, their season now risks all being for nothing.
