Arsenal fans have taken to social media to express their anger and rage following penalty drama in their 1-1 draw with Everton on Saturday.

The Gunners went ahead at Goodison Park through Leandro Trossard, with the Belgium star finding the net after some good work from Raheem Sterling.

However, controversy broke out in the second half with Everton awarded a penalty following a foul from Myles Lewis-Skelly on Jack Harrison.

Following a lengthy VAR review the spot-kick was given, with Iliman Ndiaye then converting to draw Everton level.

Arsenal threw bodies forward as they chased a winner that would have seen them close the gap on Liverpool to nine points at the top of the table.

In the end, however, Mikel Arteta’s side were forced to settle for a draw – with Ndiaye’s penalty enough for the home side to earn a draw.

And Arsenal fans have now flocked to social media to express their dismay, with many feeling Lewis-Skelly was unfortunate to be penalised after colliding with Harrison inside the box.

A fourth even alleged there was an ‘agenda’ against Arsenal, saying: “That is never a penalty. This is ridiculous. We are seeing decisions going against us almost every game and yet we aren’t supposed to talk about poor refereeing and it’s agenda.”

A fifth said: “How on earth can this a penalty, looks like we’ve forgotten that football is contact sports.”

And a sixth remarked: “Not a penalty but as it’s against Arsenal it’s a penalty. Typical. Should be used to it by now.”

LATEST SPORTS NEWS:

The result, for Arsenal, is a disappointing one.

The Gunners’ title hopes are all but over but victory at Goodison would, at least, have put some pressure on Liverpool.

However, Arne Slot’s men look all but certain to be crowned champions come May – with the Reds currently needing 11 points from eight matches to secure glory.

As for Everton, David Moyes will be delighted.

The Toffees have gone from strength to strength ever since his appointment and are now above Tottenham in 14th in the Premier League standings.

Everton are next in action against Nottingham Forest next Saturday (3pm). As for Arsenal, they’ll now switch their focus to Tuesday night’s blockbuster Champions League showdown against Real Madrid at the Emirates Stadium.
