Angel Adoree in thinly-veiled dig at Escape to the Chateau as she claims ‘a lot hit the cutting room floor’

Angel Adoree and Dick Strawbridge have spoken out about how their latest work project differs from their time on-screen on Escape to the Chateau.

The pair became household names after purchasing their rundown French chateau in 2015 as Channel 4 viewers were able to join them on their restoration journey.

Escape to the Chateau ran for nine seasons on the channel before time was called on the program for good this year.

Its cancellation was overshadowed by an independent investigation into Strawbridge and Adoree’s conduct following reports of clashes with production company Two Rivers Media.

Channel 4 has since confirmed its severed ties with the pair for good while Strawbridge and Adoree have claimed they’d always planned to leave ETTC when they did due to the age of their children.

Since the show ended, the husband and wife duo have addressed the possibility of their children selling up as well as released a new book and launched a new podcast – something Adoree has lauded for its authenticity in comparison to the Channel 4 show.

The podcast has offered the pair the chance to take the time to “sit down and chat” without the pressures of a filming schedule.

Strawbridge said of the new work venture: “We talk about the week, and stuff off the back of that… with that simple structure we can go anywhere. And we can say what we want.

“We would spend a year making television and that would come out in eight hours, whereas every week we chat for an hour about things that are happening.”

In a dig at the differences between the show and the podcast, Adoree weighed in: “Not that Escape wasn’t (authentic), but you’re only going to get the juiciest bit of everything.

“A lot of it hit the (cutting room) floor… The podcast is very personal,” she added to HELLO! Magazine.

Earlier this year, the duo appeared on ITV’s Lorraine to promote the new podcast where they reiterated their claims that Escape to the Chateau was always going to end after nine series.

Strawbridge said: “It’s interesting because we were on Lorraine before Christmas explaining the end of the ninth series. You see (our son) Arthur… Arthur kisses his mum on the forehead on the program because he’s bigger – he’s about to go to senior school.

“And as a family, we made a decision that last year was going to be the finale of Escape to the Chateau. So we finished and with that, we told everybody at the beginning of the year and everybody knew it was finishing.

“When people started talking about the end of what we were doing, it wasn’t news, it was something that happened a long time in the past. We made the decision just not to get involved in any of the conversations.”

Adoree also said the couple had adopted the Queen’s mantra of “Never complain and never explain” when it came to the headlines surrounding the show’s axe.

She added: “We had made that family decision a long time ago that it was the right time that Escape had come to its natural end.”

Strawbridge added: “We knew that Arthur and Dorothy had got to an age in their life… when they were little they just didn’t understand what was going on – it’s a very different world we’re living in.”
