Andre Onana actions at full time speak volumes after disasterclass in Man Utd and Galatasaray draw

Andre Onana was caught on camera looking extremely frustrated after Manchester United’s 3-3 draw with Galatasaray on Wednesday night.

The Red Devils played with flair in a boiling Turkish cauldron but, not for the first time this season, showed extreme vulnerabilities.

United raced into a 2-0 lead, with Alejandro Garnacho and Bruno Fernandes both on target.

Onana then made a mistake, however, with the former Inter Milan star’s positioning all wrong for a Hakim Ziyech free kick.

United once again restored their two-goal lead when Scott McTominay struck, with the Scotland international impressive throughout.

Yet Onana dropped another clanger by failing to keep another free kick from Ziyech out, despite the shot lacking power.

His positioning could have been better for Galatasaray’s crucial leveller, too, with Kerem Akturkoglu’s drive catching the United star by mistake.

In the end, the Red Devils had to settle for a point.

They are now facing elimination from the Champions League as a result, with United currently rooted to the bottom of the group with one match remaining.

TNT Sports have uploaded footage of Onana’s reaction after the final whistle was blown.

He seemed extremely frustrated with himself, shaking his head and throwing his gloves to the floor.

Onana also put his head in his hands and stood alone while the rest of his team-mates trudged down the tunnel.

Big things were expected of the 27-year-old when he arrived as a replacement for David de Gea back in the summer.

Yet Onana has struggled for consistency during his time at United so far – and the Red Devils have paid the price as a result.

There were many positives for United to take.

Garnacho was excellent again on the left wing, with the forward building on his

at the weekend.

McTominay and Fernandes stood out in midfield, while Luke Shaw’s composure earned plaudits online.

But the draw against Galatasaray sums up United in Europe so far this season.

They have now squandered leads in four of their five matches.

And that’s certainly not good enough for a side who, once upon a time, were among the favourites to win the competition.

Speaking after the game, meanwhile, Fernandes was critical and said United must learn their lesson.

“It’s too bad, to be honest,” he said.

“I don’t want to be too negative but what we have been doing in the Champions League is not enough. We have to control our games, every time.

“It’s not the first game we have like this. Even in Copenhagen, I understand we had one player less but we score for 3-2 and we have to secure the result.

“We have to understand in this kind of game, on this kind of stage, you have to be smart enough and manage the game better.”

He added: “Every time we concede a goal, we have many chances to score again.

“I think at the end of the game we have like four chances to score a goal.

“We have to put our heads up and understand that sometimes it’s about finding another pass, finding a player that is free, trying to get the one that is in the best position and not taking the chance ourselves.

“We have to look at the team first and afterwards for ourselves.”
