Adam Peaty has called out the ‘cheating’ Chinese swimmers following the men’s 4x100m medley relay final and ordered Olympic officials to ‘wake up and do your job’

China won gold in the relay final on Sunday, finishing ahead of the United States and France with Great Britain just missing out on a medal in fourth.

The from the Chinese quartest comes amidst the doping scandal that has engulfed the sport.

Qin Haiyang and Sun Jiajun were two of the four swimmers that helped China win gold.

They were two of the 23 Chinese swimmers who reportedly tested positive for a banned substance ahead of the Tokyo Olympics.

The doping scandal only came to light earlier this year with some of the sport’s top swimmers condemning the World Anti-Doping Agency for not punishing the Chinese athletes.

Olympics icon Michael Phelps said earlier this year that athletes ‘can no longer be blindly placed in the World Anti-Doping Agency’.

He added: “It is clear to me that any attempts of reform at Wada have fallen short, and there are still deeply rooted, systemic problems that prove detrimental to the integrity of international sports and athletes’ right to fair competition, time and time again.”

Now Peaty has waded in further, suggesting the Chinese athletes should have been prevented from competing in Paris.

“In sport, one of my favourite quotes I’ve seen lately is ‘There’s no point in winning if you don’t win it fair,’” Peaty said.

“I think you know that truth in your heart.

“Even if you touch and you know you’re cheating, you’re not winning, right?

“So, for me, if you’ve been on that and you have been contaminated twice, I think as an honourable person it means you should be out of the sport.

“We know sport is not that simple.

“I don’t want to paint a whole nation or group of people with one brush, I think that’s very unfair.

“To the people that need to do their job – wake up and do your job.”

Peaty also dropped hints that he was considering retirement from swimming after the Olympics.

“I think tomorrow’s never promised, so why worry? I think if my heart wants it, my heart wants it, and I’ll absolutely sign that contract with myself to do it,” he added.

“But that may be a long way away. But I think I’ve got to step away from the sport, really, because it’s just hurt too much this time. It really has.”
