A teenager has appeared in court charged with the murder of a “much loved” man.

Ben Campbell, 25, died in an incident at a property in Fort William’s Grange Road at around 9.55pm on Thursday.

In a statement released through Police Scotland, Mr Campbell’s family said: “Ben was a much-loved brother, son and friend. He will be missed by all who knew him.”

A 19-year-old man was arrested and charged in connection with Mr Campbell’s death.

Dominiks Andrejevs, 19, appeared at Inverness Sheriff Court on Monday where he made no plea to the two separate charges of murder and theft by shoplifting.

Following Mr Campbell’s death, Detective Inspector Calum Reid said: “Our thoughts are with the family and friends of the man who died at this difficult time and our officers will continue to support them as the investigation continues.

“I’m aware this incident will be of concern to the local community, but I would like to reassure the public that additional patrols are in the area as part of the ongoing investigation and there is no wider threat to the community.”
