While the summer holidays are well and truly finished for the year, now may be the perfect time to look for an autumn or winter getaway.
Research has revealed the overseas locations that are perfect for a seasonal getaway, based on a number of factors.
The research, by Riviera Travels, considered the average autumn temperatures, average number of autumn rain days, the number of coffee shops and the number of scenic attractions to give cities a “cosy travel score”.
The experts said: “Autumn is officially in full swing, bringing cooler weather and a stunning display of vibrant, colourful leaves – making it the perfect time for travelling and exploring.
Zurich came high in the list PA “Whether you’re wandering through picturesque streets, discovering hidden gems in new cities, or enjoying the crisp air on a scenic walk, autumn provides the perfect setting for a cosy getaway.”

The capital of Slovenia ranked highest and it can offer a peaceful break with plenty of scenery to discover.
The experts said: “Ljubljana is the cosiest city to visit this autumn. With a cosy travel score of 67.2, the Slovenian capital is renowned for its natural beauty, highlighted by the picturesque Ljubljanica River and a variety of parks and gardens.
“Tivoli Park is a must-see for anyone visiting the city in autumn, featuring stunning statues, beautifully landscaped gardens, and a tranquil natural environment.”
This was followed by Zurich and Prague, meaning Britons don’t need to go further than Europe to visit the top three locations. Experts added: “The Swiss city of Zurich is the second cosiest city, scoring 64.7 overall.
“While it’s known for its financial significance, Zurich also offers a charming atmosphere for a cosy trip.

“With 186 coffee shops and 34 scenic attractions, including the picturesque Chinagarten Zurich, visitors have plenty of options to explore.
“Prague follows closely behind with a cosy travel score of 64.1. With the city’s average autumn weather and over 400 coffee shops and scenic attractions, Prague provides the ideal spot to appreciate the city’s autumn charm.
“Embrace the season’s changing landscape by strolling through Petřín Hill, Prague’s hillside park that features secluded gardens and beautiful scenery.”
Holidaymakers hoping to go further away can visit New York City, Tokyo and Boston to find the perfect autumn break.
