Russian official warns U.S. will face WORSE CONSEQUENCES for backing Ukraine’s strikes on Kursk

Russian Deputy Foreign Minister Sergei Ryabkov has warned that the U.S. will face worse consequences for its backing of Ukraine’s strikes in the Kursk region.

The Russian state news agency TASS reported on his remarks on Aug. 27. Ryabkov told reporters: “The impression is that our colleagues [in Washington] have discarded the remnants of common sense and believe that they can do anything. Their clients in Kyiv have a similar approach.”

“The consequences [for the U.S.] could be much harsher than those they are already experiencing. They know where and in what areas we are reacting in practical terms. Practical consequences of what is not an accusation, but an obvious fact, are observed – and our American colleagues know what we are talking about.”

Ryabkov ultimately remarked that “Washington’s escalation is becoming more and more defiant.” His boss Sergey Lavrov, Russia’s foreign minister, shared the same sentiments. Lavrov commented that the West was seeking to escalate the Ukraine war and was “asking for trouble” by considering Ukrainian requests to ease restrictions on using foreign-supplied weapons.

“We are now confirming once again that [the West is] playing with fire – and they are like small children playing with matches,” he told reporters in Moscow. “[Such a development] is a very dangerous thing for grown-up uncles and aunts who are entrusted with nuclear weapons in one or another Western country. Americans unequivocally associate conversations about WWIII as something that, God forbid if it happens, will affect Europe exclusively.”

While Washington claims it had no role in planning the incursion into Kursk, it has allowed Kyiv to use American military vehicles and munitions to attack the region, Antiwar.com noted. Moreover, the New York Times also reported that the U.S. and the United Kingdom have provided Ukraine with satellite imagery and other information about Kursk. Moscow launches retaliatory strikes across Ukraine

On Aug. 19, Ukrainian President Volodymyr Zelensky said the Ukrainian military’s assault on Kursk shows that Moscow’s red lines and threats of retaliation are merely a bluff.

“We are witnessing a significant ideological shift. The naive, illusory concept of so-called red lines regarding Russia … has crumbled apart these days,” he remarked. According to Zelensky, these red lines from Moscow “dominated the assessment of the war by some partners.”

“You must realize, both here and in the capitals where you work, that Ukraine is separated from stopping the advance of the Russian army at the front by only one decision – which we expect from our partners. And this is a decision on long-range capabilities.”

On Aug. 26, a week after Zelensky’s remarks, Russia launched massive missile drone attacks across Ukraine followed by another heavy bombing the next day. The attacks were seen as a retaliation for the Kursk offensive, which began on Aug. 6.

Antiwar.com also reported that Russian forces have continued to make steady gains. Figures from the Russian Ministry of Defense disclosed that Ukraine has lost more than 6,200 soldiers and 73 tanks since the start of the Kursk offensive.

Meanwhile, the Russian Ministry of Emergency Situations (MCHS) said residents of border areas are being evacuated to safety. It added that a total of 197 temporary shelters have been erected in 28 regions of the country. According to the MCHS, more than 11,500 people – including over 3,500 children – are staying in these shelters.
