A motorcyclist has died after an accident during qualifying for the Manx Grand Prix, organisers have said.

Louis O’Regan died after “injuries sustained… during the opening qualifying session of the 2024 event”, a statement said.

The 43-year-old Irishman, who lived in Didcot, Oxfordshire, was an “experienced competitor” at the race – making his debut at the Newcomers A Race in 2013, it added.

He recorded a personal best lap speed of 114.7mph in the 2019 Junior Race.

The statement expressed organisers’ “great sadness” and “condolences to Louis’s partner Sarah, his family, loved ones, and friends”.

The crash happened at Kate’s Cottage, which is around 30 miles into the 37-mile race around the Isle Of Man, on Sunday.

Road closures were put in place following the accident.

The race will resume on Monday at 6.30pm and last until the following Monday.

During last year’s event, 69-year-old Iain Bainbridge died during his second qualifying session. The father-of-two from County Durham was also a regular competitor at the race, having debuted there in 2005.
