Everton boss Sean Dyche has raged following his side’s emphatic 3-0 drubbing at the hands of Brighton on Saturday afternoon.

The Toffees went into the fixture hoping to lay down a marker as they look to improve on last season’s 15th-placed finish.

But Everton were abysmal, with the Merseyside outfit conceding four times on a dreadful day at Goodison Park.

Kaoru Mitoma opened the scoring in the 25th minute, with Danny Welbeck doubling their advantage just 11 minutes into the second half.

Everton’s day worsened when Ashley Young was sent off for bringing down Mitoma as he threatened to burst through on goal.

And Simon Adingra rubbed salt into their wounds by adding a third goal for Brighton in the dying stages.

During the clash, Everton were given a penalty after Lewis Dunk and Dominic Calvert-Lewin clashed in the box.

“They said Dominic’s foot landed on his foot, but his foot’s out of control and drags Dominic’s foot his way.

“Trust me, he didn’t want to deliberately land his foot on his [Dunk’s foot]. That’s the way I’d look at it, but I’m Everton.

“A poor decision from a pass and they capitalise on that, so two errors. Then of course the sending off changes the whole finish to the game.”

When asked if he was surprised about the penalty being overturned, Dyche added: “Unfortunately, these rules change every other week.

“We’ve just come out of meetings this summer and been told it’s going to be a very high bar, they’ll leave the referee to referee the game and make a decision.

“He made a clear decision. Didn’t look in any doubt.
