22 Kids and Counting resumed on Sunday, with fans eager to catch up on the Radford family’s latest updates.
This week’s episode of the Channel 5 docuseries saw Sue and Noel Radford’s fifth child Daniel, 25, facing a huge fear which developed after a life-changing event. While Noel, 53, attempted to help his son overcome his fear, it was clear Daniel’s anxiety was deep-rooted.
At the start of the episode, Daniel shared his dream to be the first Radford to emigrate and live in Australia. However, in order to do, so he’d need to overcome his fear of driving.
A terrifying accident left Daniel with the debilitating fear of getting back behind the wheel, but in order to accept a job offer from Down Under, he would need to be able to drive.
The Channel 5 star went on to share what the show’s narrator described as a “life-changing” incident as he recalled: “I was working away in Bristol and I was going to pick some food up with my friend and I came to a junction and as I came left out of the junction, I turn my head to the back of the car to speak to my friend and I’ve turned the wheel the other way and it’s hit a curb.”
He continued: “It flipped the car over and then I was just upside-down and I couldn’t get out the car. My mate, he got out the car and then he realised I couldn’t get out the car because I couldn’t take my seat belt off. The airbag went off and it bust my nose.”

Eventually, Daniel’s friend was able to free him by unfastening his seat belt. Daniel went on to admit the crash was “definitely the scariest thing I’ve been through.”
The incident left Daniel terrified of attempting to drive again, and until Sunday’s episode of the series, he hadn’t tried since. However, dad Noel had a plan in mind when he took his son with him to do some pie deliveries.
As they paused to have some lunch, Noel explained to the camera: “Daniel’s afraid of driving so I’m just going to spring it on him.”
He broached the subject of Daniel having a go at driving as the two were chatting in the car, and plucking up the courage, Daniel moved to the diver’s seat in preparation to conquer his fear.

After some hesitation though, the terror got the better of him and he confessed: “No, I don’t think I want to drive, to be honest.” He added to his dad: “No, I’ll let you drive – you keep driving.”
As he left the car, Noel admitted: “I didn’t realise it’s affected you as much as it has, Dan. What’s bothering you?”
“Just nervous I guess,” Daniel admitted, adding: “Before I had the crash… You don’t think it can happen to you, do you? Then it put things into perspective that anything can happen at any time.”
“The car was upside down,” he emphasised. “I couldn’t get the seat belt off. It was just a scary situation, really.” Noel then shared with his son that he’d also been involved in a frightening car accident.

“It all happened so quick but in the time it does happen, you’re scared,” he shared with Daniel. Noel went on to reveal to the cameras: “I learnt form it, just to be more cautious – life is very fragile.”
“I had to drive because I had to get to work, I had no choice,” he explained to his concerned son before going on to add: “I got the car fixed and got back behind the wheel.”
However, he assured Daniel he understood his fears, continuing: “I can see where you’re coming from though.” Later, he told viewers: “The only advice I can give him is drive when you’re ready. I don’t want to push him into that.”
Eventually though, the brave Radford was able to get over his fear and start driving again, with Noel later explaining: “We’re going to get him on an advanced driving course.”
“I’m good to go for Australia now,” a delighted Daniel commented.
