Cornwall Airport Newquay has introduced its first Aurigny airline flight from Guernsey, giving holidaymakers the chance to visit turquoise waters in less than an hour.

The inaugural flight marks the beginning of a new airline service and destination for the summer 2024 season.

The route will operate weekly throughout the peak summer season and open up direct connections between Guernsey and Cornwall.

Guernsey, the second-largest island in the Channel Islands, is located just off the coast of Normandy.

Visit Guernsey’s official website reads: “With crystal clear turquoise, secluded closes and panoramic views, the Islands of Guernsey have a variety of beaches to explore.

“From sandy spots to relax with family to sheltered bay perfect for wild swimming and kayak adventures, each of our five islands offers unique spots to enjoy and unwind.”

The island can be reached in as little as 40 minutes by plane, with several airlines offering flights to Guernsey from regional and international airports across the UK.

The move is expected to strengthen connections between the Channel Islands and Cornwall, supporting the tourism industry.

Cornwall Airport Newquay’s Head of Commercial, Amy Smith, commented: “We are thrilled to welcome Aurigny and their passengers to Cornwall Airport Newquay.

“This new route is a fantastic addition to our summer schedule and enhances our connectivity.

“It further highlights the growing appeal of Cornwall as a top travel destination and offers a good link to the Channel Islands. We look forward to a successful partnership”.

Sudeep Ghai, Chief Commercial Officer of Aurigny, added: “We’re delighted to add Newquay to our network this summer, giving the people of Guernsey the opportunity to experience the remarkable beauty of the Cornish coast.

“Why not make a trip to St Ives Truro, Mousehold or Lands End, and surf enthusiasts, head out for the waves and the festivals.

“And likewise, we hope to bring the people of Cornwall to Guernsey to experience the warmth of three islands, not just the hospitality of Guernsey but the opportunity to travel onward from here to Alderney and Sark.”

Holidaymakers have had more destinations to choose from this summer after airlines launched new routes to the Faroe Islands.

The scenic group of islands lie between Iceland and Norway, flaunting volcanic scenery and breathtaking waterfalls.

Atlantic Airways launched additional flights from the UK to the destination in June.

This means Britons can fly direct from London Gatwick to Vágar on new services running twice a week, on Tuesdays and Saturdays.
