Sir Keir Starmer will be passed notes with the score in England’s crucial Euro semifinal today against the Netherlands while he is in talks with world leaders in Washington.

The Prime Minister also jokingly suggested that the new Labour government was a good omen for the Three Lions as England had never missed a penalty under his administration.

Starmer said he had asked staff to make sure that he is kept informed of the score at the Nato summit in the American capital.

According to his schedule at the summit, Starmer is due to be in a meeting of the North American Council which sets policy for Nato around the time of the kick off.

Asked for his advice for Gareth Southgate’s team, Starmer said: “Win! I understand our phones are all taken off us, when we go into the Council, so I’ve no doubt we’ll be passed lots of notes with really important information about the summit, and one or two of those notes hopefully will be an update on the score, because I’m not going to be able to get it otherwise.”

Speaking to GB News and other reporters on the PM’s flight to the US, he added: “I’ve sent a message to the team, obviously I wish them well, I want them to win, and let’s hope they can do it tomorrow.”

Starmer, a lifelong Arsenal FC fan, also paid tribute to Bukayo Saka’s goal which helped put England through to the semis. Saka is a key player for Arsenal.

He said: “That was classic Bukayo cuts in from the right and that shot is absolutely classic – inside of the post – I’ve seen it so many times.”

And if today’s match goes to penalties he said that already there was a good omen for the Three Lions.

“I’d remind you, England have not missed a penalty under a Labour government in 2024,” he said.
