Emma Raducanu has confirmed she won’t be voting in Thursday’s General Election despite not being scheduled to play at Wimbledon on Thursday.

Millions are set to go out and vote tomorrow as Keir Starmer and Rishi Sunak make their final push for support.

But the General Election falls on the fourth day of the Wimbledon Championships with the thousands expected to attend unable to get to the polls.

It’s been predicted that this year’s General Election could be the worst voter turnout in modern history.

And it’s clearly not something 2021 US Open champion Raducanu has taken an interest in either.

The 21-year-old has a day off from playing at Wimbledon on Thursday, but she wasn’t even aware that the General Election was on July 4.

When asked whether she was going to vote before practicing tomorrow, Raducanu said with a smile: “No.

“I think I’ll have a lie-in, then I’ll come to practice.

“I didn’t even know it was tomorrow, to be honest. Thanks for letting me know.”

She isn’t the only British tennis star who is set to skip the General Election to remain solely focused on Wimbledon.

British No 1 Katie Boulter also confirmed she won’t be voting as she prepares to face compatriot Harriet Dart.

She said: “I’m going to stick to the tennis right now.

“I don’t see myself as someone who’s going to get involved in anything but tennis that day for the moment.

“I’ll cross that bridge when I get there.”

Jack Draper admitted he takes “no” interest in politics and won’t have time to keep up with what happens in the General Election.

“I mean, it’s a crazy busy time for us tennis players. There’s not much TV watching. There’s not much time to sort of be thinking about that,” he said.

“Obviously it’s really important, so we’ll see.”
