The Met Office has issued a yellow heat alert warning as England faces hot weather in just a few days’ time.

Temperatures could hit as high as 26C, with mercury ticking up from Monday morning.

The North West, Yorkshire & Humberside, East Midlands, West Midlands, East of England, London, South East and South West all face yellow heat warnings.

The North East is the only English region facing a green heat warning over the same time frame.

The warning, jointly issued with the UK Health Security Agency, starts at 8am on June 24.

It remains in place until 5pm a few days later on June 27.

Britons have been warned the rise in mercury could result in an increase in the use of healthcare services, an increase in the risk of mortality amongst vulnerable and elderly people, a threat of clinical risk assessment in care settings, and an impact on the ability of services to be delivered.

Looking ahead to Sunday to Tuesday, the Met Office said: “High pressure building to bring a lot of dry and sunny weather from Sunday.

“Becoming more widely very warm next week, locally hot and humid for some by Tuesday.”

The national weather service’s deputy chief meteorologist Dan Rudman added: “Heatwave conditions need to remain in situ for three consecutive days, and by the beginning to middle of next week it is possible that some parts of the UK could be reaching heatwave thresholds.”

Temperatures will hit 23C in London on Saturday, with Manchester and Belfast also getting into the low twenties.

Sunday will see a further spike as Cardiff joins the growing list of major cities hitting 20C.

However, temperatures will go up a notch on Tuesday afternoon.
