Leicester fans have raged after Steve Cooper was confirmed as the new manager of the club on Thursday, with the 44-year-old replacing Enzo Maresca.

The Foxes recently lost Maresca to Chelsea, with the Italian taking over from Mauricio Pochettino after his recent departure from Stamford Bridge.

Leicester City Chairman Aiyawatt Srivaddhanaprabha explained the appointment by saying: “We are delighted to welcome Steve to Leicester City.

“His vision for the team, including his ability to develop players and implement a dynamic style of play, is very much aligned with our aspirations for the club.

“As a leader, he has the ability to build on the strong relationship that has been forged between our fans and our team, strengthening a bond that will be vital to us re-establishing the club in the Premier League.”

However, while some Leicester fans are enthused by Cooper’s appointment, not everybody is happy.

Fans on X have vented their fury, with a certain number believing the club should have gone for Graham Potter instead.

“Absolutely awful news. A new low for our club,” fumed one user.

A second said: “Extremely underwhelming appointment from the club and shows what a downward spiral we are on.”

A third said: “I am utterly stunned and disgusted by this decision. Taking one step forward and 2 steps backwards.”

A fourth stated: “How do you go from Potter and Corberan to Steve Cooper? This club is going backwards.”

“Terrible signing should have gone for Potter,” were the words of a fifth.

Another raged: “This isn’t an exciting signing if we’re being honest.”

And a seventh said: “What?? This guy nearly relegated Forest and they are going in for him?? Some clubs never learn.”

Leicester, however, clearly believe Cooper is the right man for the job.

The 44-year-old coached England at youth level earlier in his career and guided the Three Lions to glory at the FIFA Under-17 World Cup in 2017.

Cooper did well enough at Swansea before leaving in July 2021 after a two-year stint.

He took over at Nottingham Forest in September, guiding the club to Premier League promotion the following year playing free-flowing, attacking football.
