Neal Maupay has wasted no time in mocking James Maddison after the England star was left out of Gareth Southgate’s 26-man squad for Euro 2024.
Maddison has been hoping to feature at the competition in Germany but left camp on Thursday after being told he wouldn’t be making the cut.
The Tottenham star clashed with Maupay earlier in the season during a match between Spurs and Brentford.
Maupay mimicked Maddison’s darts celebration, angering his Spurs rival in the process.
And the Frenchman has now ruthlessly mocked Maddison in the wake of his England snub.
Maupay took to X to share an image of himself holding darts, in front of a board, with no caption attached.
It seemed to be a direct dig at Maddison, who is ‘devastated’ by his failure to make Gareth Southgate’s squad.
And fans on X believe Maupay has rubbed salt into Maddison’s wounds, with one user saying: “Violated James Maddison.”
A second said: “This is ridiculous.”
A third said: “You owned him Neal.”
Another said: “Nah I’m crying real tears.”
A fifth stated: “Unreal trolling.”
And a sixth opined: “Naaa that’s a liberty.”
Maddison is yet to respond but, with Maupay now back at Everton, the pair are likely to battle on the pitch once again next season.
The Tottenham star has taken to social media to react to his omission from the latest England squad.
And Maddison has admitted he had hoped to play a part in the tournament, which commences later this month.
“Devastated doesn’t quite cut it. Trained well and worked hard all week but if I’m honest with myself, my form for Spurs when coming back from injury in the second half of the season probably wasn’t at the levels I had set which gave Gareth a decision to make,” he said.
“I still thought there would be a space for me in a 26 man squad as I feel I bring something different & had been a mainstay in this whole qualifying campaign for Euro 2024 in Germany but the manager has made the decision and I have to respect that.
“I’ll be back, I have no doubt.
