Arsenal lead tributes to Daniel Anjorin, 14, killed in Hainault sword attack

Tributes to Daniel Anjorin, the schoolboy who was stabbed to death whilst walking to school on Tuesday, have poured in, with Arsenal leading the way.

Anjorin, 14, was killed after a 36-year-old man attacked members of the public with a “samurai-style” sword in Hainault.


The schoolboy suffered fatal wounds to his neck and chest.

The North London football team led tributes to Daniel, who was a fan of the club, ahead of their Premier League match against Bournemouth on Saturday.

During the match there was also a moment of applause throughout the Emirates Stadium in the 14th minute, with a banner reading “RIP Daniel” among the crowd.

His family also released a statement via the Metropolitan Police: “We as a family are devastated by the loss of our beloved son Daniel.

“It is difficult for us at this time to process what has happened to him and that he will never come home. Daniel had left the house for school and then he was gone.

“Our children have lost their loving and precious brother and we have lost the most loved and amazing son.

“We would like to send our best wishes to the other victims of this unthinkable incident.

“We would also like to thank the local community for all of their support during this most difficult time.

“We ask that the media please respect our privacy and refrain from contacting us or our family.”

Marcus Aurelio Arduini Monzo, a dual Spanish-Brazilian national living in Newham, was charged with murdering the teenager and appeared at Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Thursday.

Staff and pupils at Bancroft’s, an independent school, said they have been left in “profound shock and sorrow” at the death of one of their pupils.

His mother works as a teacher at Holy Family School in Walthamstow, who said the following in a statement published on their website: “It is with great sadness that I share with you the news of the death of the child of one of our staff members.

“Mrs Anjorin’s son was taken from this life suddenly this morning on his way to school. Please keep Mrs Anjorin, her husband and their other children in your prayers.”
