A Ryanair flight was forced to be diverted after passengers broke an airline rule.

The plane was travelling from Manchester to Alicante in Spain on Friday, April 5 when it was forced to make an emergency stop in Barcelona.

In footage posted on social media, passengers can be seen speculating while the men are led off the flight.

The two men can be seen collecting their belongings from the overhead lockers as the stewardess watches over their shoulder.

According to tracking website FlightRadar, the aircraft departed from Manchester Airport at around 6.20pm, the flight then landed in Barcelona at around 8.30pm UK time before carrying on to Alicante.

In the video, passengers can be heard chanting “Get ’em off” before a sarcastic cheer is heard when the pair stand up.

One passenger can be heard saying: “A few too many drinks but they didn’t really do anything.” Another woman can be heard replying: “Give over. That’s all they’ve done? Thousands of pounds just because they’ve opened a bottle of Disaronno?”

Another added: “This is ridiculous. Flight to Alicante stopped in Barcelona because someone drank a bottle of Disaronno. Lovely. How many police cars are outside? Two and a riot van. Two lads have drunk a bottle of Disaronno.”

Ryanair’s rules state that passengers may buy duty-free alcohol from the airport before a flight.

However, any passengers must store it safely in a suitable bag in the cabin during the trip.

Passengers are not allowed to drink alcohol bought from duty-free during a flight. Only alcohol bought on a flight may be consumed mid-journey.

Ryanair’s terms and conditions also say the airline may refuse to carry a passenger if their “mental state, physical state, attitude, behaviour or appearance, including the effects of alcohol or drugs, presents a risk to them, other passengers or crew members, or any property.”

A spokesperson from Ryanair told GB News: “This flight from Manchester to Alicante (April 5) diverted to Barcelona due to a disruptive passenger onboard.

“The passenger was removed, and this flight continued to Alicante.”
