BBC confirms future of new Hairy Bikers series after Dave Myers death amid Si King’s solo TV update

Hairy Bikers fans were given good news on Friday afternoon after it was confirmed the most recent series – Hairy Bikers Go West – will continue to air next week despite the death of Dave Myers.

The news of his death was confirmed on Thursday, February 29, by best friend and co-star Si King in an emotional and lengthy statement on Instagram.


After a flurry of tributes were posted, many wondered what will happen to the latest series of the show and if it would continue to be aired on BBC Two.

Strictly Come Dancing star Tyler West confirmed today that the BBC has no intention of stopping the series and it will continue to run next week.

He explained: “The series will continue, The Hairy Bikers Go West, they filmed it last year. It’s currently airing and it will plan to go out as normal on Tuesday.

“[In] the new episode they visit North Wales and it says at the start of the episode, ‘It looks like our adventures could be over’.

“He [Myers] thinks his illness could stop him from riding his beloved motorcycles, but the thing about their shows is that it’s so much more about food, it was so much more than that.

“It was about friendship at the heart of every single thing they did and without a doubt, this last episode meant the world to them,” he said on ITV’s Lorraine.

The final episode will air as planned on Tuesday, March 5 from 7pm on BBC Two, with the BBC confirming to Express.co.uk: “To confirm, the schedule TX of the series will continue as planned. Episode 5 of Go West will TX next Tuesday at 7pm on BBC Two.”

The news of the series continuing comes after King previously admitted he would no longer continue his TV appearances without Myers by his side.

The pair had been friends for years before their first TV appearance together on the Hairy Bikers’ Cookbook in 2004.

King previously told Express.co.uk: “I probably would [quit]. I wouldn’t want to make shows that Dave and I make.

“That would be it. I wouldn’t have it in my heart and soul, we were the Hairy Bikers. He’s like my brother.”

The pair bonded over “a curry and a poppadum,” 32 years ago and previously told BBC Breakfast they never got round to playing their intended game of pool because they were too busy chatting.

“I put my money on the table, you when you when you used to put your money on the table to let people know you were next.

“And we just went, ‘Oh no, somebody else take the game’, because Dave and I were just cracking on.”

As well as Go West, Myers and King have also starred in cookery shows Hairy Bikers Go North, Hairy Bikers Go Local, The Hairy Bikers Chocolate Challenge, The Hairy Bikers’ Mediterranean Adventure, The Hairy Bikers Home for Christmas and many more.
