Influential Democratic donors spent a suspicious amount of money to purchase art pieces from Hunter Biden
Hunter Biden’s art dealer has confirmed that influential donors to the Democratic Party were the main buyers of the presidential son’s art pieces, strongly suggesting that some form of money laundering and influence peddling may have been involved in the deals.
Berges refused to answer direct questions from the committee regarding the identity of the donors who bought Hunter’s paintings.
Despite Berges’ refusal to provide names to the House Oversight Committee, prior investigations into Hunter’s art deals show that two notable Democratic donors who bought paintings were Kevin Morris and Elizabeth Hirsh Naftali.
Morris is a personal friend of Hunter. Back in October, it was revealed that Morris acquired Hunter’s stake in the Chinese investment company Bohai Harvest RST by assuming $250,000 in debt from an unpaid loan given to Hunter by his Chinese business associates. This loan was notable for listing the president’s Delaware home as the beneficiary address.
Morris bought Hunter’s art for $875,000. Documents published by whistleblowers within the Internal Revenue Service also reveal that Morris gave Hunter $4.9 million in loans from 2020 to 2022.
Meanwhile, Naftali paid $42,000 in February 2021 for one art piece and again in December 2022 for $52,000. Between the first and second purchases, Naftali was appointed to the Commission for the Preservation of America’s Heritage Abroad by the president.
Hunter knows the people who bought his art are Democratic donors
According to sources who spoke with the Washington Examiner and were familiar with the transcribed interview, Berges testified that Democratic donors have spent the most money on Hunter’s art but did not necessarily buy the most pieces in total. He stressed in the interview that donors did not make up the majority of individual buyers and that Democratic donors were not being targeted to make purchases.
Berges confirmed in the interview that he did not inform Hunter about the identities of individual donors. However, sources did add that Hunter was aware of the identities of some people who purchased roughly 70 percent of the value of the sold art, including Morris and Naftali.
According to one of the sources, Berges also testified in the interview that Hunter’s name being attached to the art pieces influenced setting the price for his art which, if true, could go a long way to explaining the massive sums Morris and Naftali paid for the art pieces and suggests that they believe they could resell these art pieces for higher sums in the future due to their association with the Biden family.
Berges himself noted that he had never done any art deals like the ones he negotiated between Hunter and Morris and Naftali. He even pointed out that Hunter paid Berges a 40 percent commission on the sale with Morris.
In a letter sent in the middle of last year to House Oversight Committee Chairman James Comer of Kentucky, an attorney for Naftali claimed that the alleged connections between her, Hunter and the president are filled with “numerous” falsehoods.
“Any insinuation that her purchase of art was unusual or somehow improper is entirely unsupported,” said the attorney. “To be clear, Ms. Naftali purchased the artwork solely because she liked the art and the prices were reasonable … never at any time did she have direct or indirect contact with anyone at the White House regarding any art purchased.”
“The Biden White House appears to have deceived the American people about facilitating an ethics agreement governing the sale of Hunter Biden’s art,” said Comer. “Hunter Biden’s gallerist never had any communication with the White House about such an agreement to make sure there was any sort of ethics compliance at all, and he provided information to the committee revealing how Hunter Biden’s amateur art career is an ethics nightmare.”
“The White House has a lot of explaining to do about misleading the American people,” he added.
