Hollywood legend Robert De Niro was left in a fit of laughter at last night’s Golden Globes awards, as the film icon was mocked for his “last performance”.
Host Jo Koy took to the stage for his opening monologue after being chosen just ten days before the big event.
The 52-year-old comedian was met with a mixed reaction from the star-studded audience, as Koy quipped about blockbusters Barbie and Oppenheimer, before turning his attention to nominees of the night.
Following a tepid reaction to his jokes, Koy defended himself to the stars, stating “I got the gig 10 days ago!”

As Koy struggled through his lines, the host made clear that some jokes weren’t written by him.
Addressing the ceremony in Beverly Hills, he swiped: “I wrote some of these and those are the ones you’re laughing at.”
One target of Koy’s jokes was legendary actor Robert De Niro, who attended with his girlfriend, Tiffany Chen.
The 80-year-old actor was up for an award for his performance in Killer of the Flower Moon, in which he starred alongside lead actor Leonardo DiCaprio.
Koy excitedly began his joke about the star, telling the audience “Robert De Niro is here! Sorry, I’m a fan. I’m a fan. I’m fanning out.
“I love you, Robert. If it’s awkward, I’m sorry. I had to do that in front of you. I know it sucks.”
De Niro appeared amused as Koy continued: “‘I’m a bit awestruck. This guy’s amazing, decade after decade, he just kills it every single time. I don’t know how you do it, man. I swear to god.”
“Your last performance has got to be your greatest performance ever.”
He paused before joking with the star: “How’d you get her pregnant at 80?!”

De Niro’s girlfriend, Chen, covered her mouth as the couple laughed at the joke.
Koy made De Niro laugh even more as he carried on his joke, asking “you talking to me?”, taking his iconic Taxi Driver line.
De Niro and Tiffany Chen, 45, welcomed their daughter Gia in April 2023, making her the actor’s seventh child.
The couple have been together since August 2021, following De Niro’s divorce from long-term partner Grace Hightower in 2018.
The actor lost out on a Golden Globes win after being pipped to the post by Oppenheimer star Robert Downey Jr, who took home the award for his performance in the Christopher Nolan blockbuster.
