The Eurovision Song Contest 2024 has made a shock announcement involving the Caribbean.
The competition is set to be held at the Malmo Arena in Sweden after Loreen emerged as the victor of the 2023 show.
Alongside a clip showcasing the region’s sandy beaches, the show’s official account wrote: “New year! New news! We’re thrilled to confirm that THE CARIBBEAN is coming to the Eurovision Song Contest 2024.”
The subregion of North America that includes more than 700 islands could be set for a role in the contest, according to the cryptic post.
One of its 13 independent countries, among them Jamaica, The Bahamas and Barbados, could be taking to the stage for the first time.
The musical extravaganza is set for another bumper spectacle with the announcement not being the first sneak peek of what fans can expect.
In December, the stage design for the contest was revealed, as a video teased what it would look like.
The official Eurovision Song Contest captioned the clip: “Good folk of Europe and beyond… say ‘hey’ to the #Eurovision2024 stage!”

Popstar Olly Alexander was also unveiled as the UK’s entry for the competition during the Strictly final.
He said on the BBC show: “I love Eurovision so much, it’s a dream come true.
“I’m just so, so excited.”
