Michael Schumacher’s son has confessed he’s appreciating the ‘little things’ in life while his father continues to live away from the spotlight.

The German hasn’t been seen in nearly a decade after sustaining serious injuries in a skiing accident in 2013.

Schumacher went off course and struck his head on a rock.

Though he was initially conscious, the F1 legend was later taken to hospital and placed in a medically induced coma.

Schumacher later returned home, with his family continuing to care for him in the years since.

The 54-year-old’s condition is still unknown, however, and hope of a miracle appears to be fading.

Schumacher’s son, Mick, says he’s learning to appreciate the ‘little things’ in life.

When quizzed on the accident that changed the family’s life, the 24-year-old told German media: “I believe that in such cases you learn to perceive certain moments differently.

“You learn to appreciate the little things.”

Mick also said he feels people ‘focus too much on the bad things and not enough on the nice things that are still there.’

The youngster was in France at the time of his father’s accident.

And though he’s attempted to emulate Schumacher by becoming an F1 star, that’s proven tricky so far.

Schumacher’s brother, Ralf, has also discussed the stricken star.

He says he misses his sibling, and that life is ‘sometimes unfair’.

“I miss my Michael from back then,” Ralf told Bild.

“Life is sometimes unfair.

“Michael had often been lucky in his life, but then this tragic accident happened.

“Despite modern medical options, nothing is as it used to be.”

He added: “Michael wasn’t only my brother.

“When we were kids, he was also my coach and mentor. He taught me literally everything about kart racing.

“There may be an age gap of seven years, but he was always by my side.

“We raced together, we practised overtaking manoeuvres and everything that matters in motorsports.”

Schumacher’s wife, Corinna, has cared for her husband over the past decade and done a brilliant job of raising a family at the same time.

She keeps updates on her husband to a minimum – but did say in 2021 that Schumacher was ‘here, but different’.

“I miss Michael every day. But it’s not just me who misses him,” she told a Netflix documentary.

“It’s the children, the family, his father, everyone around him.

“Everybody misses Michael, but Michael is here – different, but here. He still shows me how strong he is every day.”

She added: “We are trying to carry on as a family, the way Michael liked it and still does.

“We live together at home. We do therapy. We do everything we can to make Michael better and to make sure he’s comfortable.”
