WBC president Mauricio Sulaiman has sparked hope of Tyson Fury and Anthony Joshua potentially facing each other.
The two Britons have exchanged verbal blows for a number of years but, despite plenty of talking, have never settled their differences in the ring.
Joshua is expected to face Deontay Wilder once his fight with Otto Wallin, which takes place on Saturday night as part of Saudi Arabia’s ‘Day of Reckoning’, is out of the way.
Fury, meanwhile, is preparing for his bout with Oleksandr Usyk on February 17.

Boxing fans are expecting to see Joshua and Wilder lock horns on March 9 if they both win.
And Sulaiman has suggested the winner of that showdown would then go up against Fury or Usyk as the mandatory challenger for the WBC world heavyweight champion.
“The Day of Reckoning is an unprecedented event, and it’s a great tournament,” he told Boxing Scene.
“If Wilder and Joshua fight, it will be a natural final elimination bout between the WBC’s No 1 challenger Wilder and No 2 Joshua for the mandatory shot.
“We’ll wait to see what happens on Saturday, but at this time there is nothing (yet official).
“From what I understand, Fury-Usyk and Wilder-Joshua both have rematch agreements.”
He continued: “I feel very very excited.
“We’ve been having a push for this for many years.
“When Wilder was our champion (from 2015 to 2020), we provided all of the time and possibilities for him to face Joshua at the time.
“When Fury beat Wilder and became the champion, we did several things in the process, hoping (for Fury) to land the fight with Joshua, and then Usyk.
“So it’s been a long process – a long due process.
“Now it’s happening, and the WBC is proud, happy and supportive.
“It’s a great moment for boxing.”
While Fury could yet face Joshua, his father recently expressed doubts over whether that fight would ever happen.
“No, I think that one’s flew. That bird’s flew,” he said.

“That boat’s sailed. Unless AJ keeps winning, he gets past Wallin, he beats Wilder, Tyson is undisputed champion.
“Guess what? Game on. The biggest fight ever to grace a TV screen.
“It’s the stuff dreams are made of isn’t it?
“I would love nothing better. I think that will never ever be equalled.”
Fury’s father also feels Joshua may lose to Wallin in Saudi this weekend, too.

“AJ’s got his own problems,” he added.
“And that’ll be the case of Lennox Lewis and Riddick Bowe – the fight that never took place.
“He’s gotta get through the 23rd, and then he’s fighting Wilder, so he’s got two Everests to climb before he gets to Tyson.
“At the end of the day, he had his chance didn’t he? And they flunked it.
“All that’s down is put AJ in a slippery situation. Both fights aren’t banana skins, he can get beat.
“He’s every chance of getting beat by Wallin.”
